  1. First Telecast of a Major League Game

August 26, 1939. Station WXBS (NBC) televised a doubleheader between the Cincinnati Reds and Brooklyn Dodgers from Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. Red Barber described the game, which was televised using two cameras set up near the baselines. (Larry MacPhail, president of the Dodgers, authorized the experimental telecasts of 10 or 12 home games in 1940 and 1941. He later became president of the New York Yankees and scored another first by selling television broadcasting rights of Yankees home games in 1946. He got $75,000 for the rights, although there were only 500 television sets in New York when the season started. Unlike radio, which met with skepticism and opposition in the early years, television was accepted with open arms by ball clubs and, in 1947, 11 of the 16 clubs televised some home games.)

  2. Cincinnati Reds!
