The Dodgers look to strengthen infield with Juan Uribe influence
Major League Baseball is going through a long break in the year. The next regular season is going to start in April and while teams are readying themselves for the challenge ahead, there is a heated flow of activity in the free agency that is attracting
much attention, as of late.
Ball clubs are looking to add experience and young blood to their respective rosters. More than 150 free agents are in search for a better deal and while their chase is active, much hype is being created in the World of baseball on who will go where when
the spring training session begins in February.
It seems the San Francisco Giants are not putting up a good fight to retain one of their influential figures from the World Series triumph last season. Juan Uribe is in the free agency at the moment and while he’s landing a lot of attention from the top
clubs in the American and the National League, there is nothing more the champs have done to counter the interest than offer the star arbitration. The infielder is expected to have made his decision soon and it will be a wonder to see where the colossal star
will go.
However, the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking into Juan at the moment as well. New reports suggest the highly rated batter could provide the necessary cover needed in the infield position.
Casey Blake is approaching his final season on his 3-year deal with the National League West side. Having Uribe will boost the team’s chances to succeed in the coming campaign. Juan has the ability to position himself on the second and third base. However,
his original position as a shortstop has earned him the highest fielding percentage in the league.
Uribe had a sound regular season recently and his total of 24 home runs and 85 RBIs (Runs Batted In) has earned him the good fortune to be considered for a move out of his present club. His on base percentage went up to about .310 and his slugging ratio
wasn’t much to highlight, as he availed a .440 percentage. Uribe, in summary, availed a .248 batting average in his tenure in the regular season.
The move for Juan seems tactful in the eyes of many baseball fans. The Dodgers will avail a highly rated star in the prime position and it will be considered a right move to replace Casey Blake if he decides to look ahead after 2011.
