What does it mean when Jim says "An ancient lunatic reins in the trees of the night" and then he laughs? Just curious.

  1. That is a tricky line to make sense of, for a while now I have been trying to make sense of it but don't think I am right. The first thought on it would be that it is creating a visual or creating a setting with the wording. I can't explain it but hearing the words make me imagine a certain atmosphere  of strangeness and mystery. If you break it up word by word it doesn't really seem to be literally speaking because it is very vague, however it leads me back to my original thought that these are just "sensory" or subconscious thought words.

What I find more likely is it is a reference to something else. I am guessing a piece of literature, film, or play of some sort. I searched for it online to little success but I found something that I found somewhat odd, it's probably just a coincidence but you never know. If you scroll to a little bit past the middle of this article to Christian Europe it says something that seems to almost fit with the theme of the song's message. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_... Again, probably nothing but it was from "ancient" times, of course not literally but in casual speak you could say that. Then they reference the lunatic part and include about music helping and the influence of the moon (night) Don't think many people read De Proprietatibis Rerum, but you never know with Jim and his level of intellect.

Another option is Jim could of just made it up with no intention or meaning in mind, that's why he is laughing at the fools like me trying desperately to analyze it ;)

*Insert the same thing I always ramble about not one way to interpret things or to understand things and that's what makes them great* It's complicated and I am not entirely sure there is one answer or meaning to it anyway.
