The Doral Golf Resort and Spa ready to stage Cadillac Championship
The WGC-Cadillac Championship is going to be played at the famous venue of the Doral Golf Resort and Spa, from March 8 to 11.
The much-hyped mega event is staged by the World Golf Association every year at different places. However, since 2007, it has been played at the TPC Blue Monster, Doral, Miami, in Florida.
There are five golf courses at Doral, but the officials have selected TPC Blue Monster because it is one of the best and has difficult bunkers, which will make the tournament even tougher.
It is a 72-par golf course, designed by d**k Wilson and is 7,356 yards. The course has one of the highest ratings of 76.9 as well.
The stroke-play Cadillac Championship is a joint venture of the PGA (Professional Golf Association) Tour, European Tour and Japan Golf Tour. It is one of the five tournaments staged by the WGC and has remarkable history.
The tournament was launched in 1999, with Tiger Woods being the debut winner of the event.
Woods also won six times in the event and recorded massive scores. His best finish was of a 25-under 263 in 2002. This was the highest score ever made by any golfer in the history of the tournament.
However, the highest score in a round was made by Greg Norman. He finished his round by carding a 10-under 62 in the 1990 and 1993 events.
Nick Watney is the defending champion and will be teeing off in March to regain his lost glory.
The 18-hole Blue Monster Course is one of the toughest venues in the United States and Watney has to show some extra improvements to lead again.
The top-50 golfers will qualify for the field. The tough and competitive battle is expected between the players striving to win $1,400,000 out of the $8,500,000 purse.
The Floridian site of the Doral Golf Resort and Spa is another important aspect of the tournament. The spectators will enjoy the game with additional hoteling services.
There are 33 private rooms, luxurious thermal baths, steam rooms and other amenities like delicious food.
Officials have said that it is a complete venue for golf players and spectators to spend four days at.
