The Drawing of Lots for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments coming up on Sunday
The much awaited event of Summer Olympic Games is coming up in July 2012 and the qualification process for the competition is covering its final stage.
In this connection, the last stage of the European qualification process for both men’s and women’s teams will be carried out very soon. The Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) has already announced the venues for men’s and women’s tournament. The
men’s final Olympic qualifying tournament will be held in Bulgaria, while the women’s tournament will be played in Turkey.
Currently, the CEV is scheduled to announce the Drawing of Lots for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers. The DOL for women’s tournament will be carried out on Sunday, January 15 in Turkish Capital City Istanbul, whereas Sofia in Bulgaria will host the similar
event on January 20 for men’s tournament.
According to the set formula of the competition, eight teams per gender will take part in the upcoming tournaments. The participants will be split into two groups of four teams each by the DOL.
However, the two highest-ranked teams from the last edition of the CEV Volleyball European Championship will not be assigned to the same preliminary group. In the light of this rule, women’s team from Serbia and Germany will be placed in different groups.
On the other hand, men’s teams from Serbia and Italy will be in different groups. Likewise, teams coming from the same pre-qualification tournament will not cross their ways during the prelims and will be assigned to different Pools.
The final phase of the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament will feature men’s teams from Bulgaria, Serbia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Finland, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The women’s division will feature teams from Turkey, Serbia, Poland, Germany, Russia, Croatia,
Bulgaria, and the Netherlands.
The tournaments will be opened with the preliminary round-robin. At the end of first round, two top teams from each group will get the chance to play in the semi-finals, while the two low-performance teams from each pool will be disqualified.
The final match will be played between the two top teams of the campaign in each gender category. Eventually, the winners of these tournaments will book their trip to London and hence fulfil their Olympic dream.
