The Dubai Racing Club Gold Cup now falls under the mother of all racing events, the Dubai World Cup, renamed the Dubai Gold Cup
The Dubai Racing Club Gold Cup now has been renamed as the Dubai Gold Cup that will be run for the very first time with the new name in 2012, at the Meydan.
This addition has diversified the event along with raising the record bars higher than ever. The race has fallen up to the Carnival’s mark, because it now includes surfaces that range from sprinters to stayers.
The Dubai World Cup in itself is larger than life in a sense that it already is known as the “world’s richest day in racing” but this year’s inclusion of the Dubai Gold Cup has broadened its horizons to new dimensions.
The race card will reach to an exciting level of nine events, while the prize money will jump to a good US$27,250 million. The race will be held over a distance of 3,200 metres.
“As the popularity of the Dubai World Cup and racing at Meydan grows, we must keep in step to encourage and foster the development of the sport, said Mr. Saeed Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Meydan.
“Meydan has developed as a centerpiece of the international racing calendar and the further growth of the Dubai World Cup and Dubai World Cup Carnival will ensure that Dubai serves as a winter destination for some the biggest names in racing", said
the chairman of the board and the CEO of Meydan.
The Dubai World Cup Carnival has over the years turned into a platform with which all the prestigious and popular horse racing events want to get affiliated with, as this is not the first time that a separate racing event has been incorporated with
the main event.
Before this most recent addition to the Carnival, the Al Quoz lined up as a sought out event during the season, in 2010.
When the Dubai World Cup began in 1996, it had only six featured events to offer that kept increasing with the course of time, and now the tally stands at nine.
Considering the annual icon that it has become, it is inevitable not to see it expanding and flourishing with more diverse racing meetings.
