The Dutch men outclass their Canadian counterparts 6-0 in a highly entertaining game
The Dutch athletes thrashed their Canadian counterparts by 6-0 in one of their friendly matches which was played on Saturday, August 13.
The game was quite entertaining where the Dutch athletes dominated their opponents from the starting whistle till the end as they scored four goals in the first thirty five minutes while two in the second half whereas their rivals were remained sick of scoring
any goal in the entire course of action. Being at the third place on the FIH rankings, the Dutch really proved their class and skills throughout the match. They dictated their opponents on their own terms and remained quite disciplined in their defence and
aggressive in their attack.
“The Netherlands are a world class team, and we failed to adjust to the pace early in the game. However, the team was able to find its structure in the second half and even create a number of good opportunities,” Anthony Farry, assistant coach of the Canada
national men’s hockey team, explained about the performance of his side after the match.
In the start of the first half the Dutch men showed their intentions very clearly to their opponents and started the match with a lot of aggression by displaying a full flowing play with a lot of pace. However, the Dutch men had to wait till the 15th
minute to open their account when they scored an easy goal after beautifully penetrating into the Canadian circle. They had a chance before just in the starting moments of the first half but the penalty corner shot was wonderfully saved by the Canadian goal-keeper,
Antoni Kindler. They took just another two minutes in doubling their lead when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 17th minute after a foul was committed by one of the Canadian defenders and they converted the penalty stroke into their second
goal.
The Dutch continued their swift attack and did not allow the Canadian men to be reunited in their defence and scored two more goals in the remaining time of the first part of the game. Their third goal was scored in the 20th minute when the Dutch
men were flawless in their approach in converting another penalty corner into third goal. One of the Dutch penalty corners was stopped by the Canadian defence line in the 25th minute; however, in the 28th minute they once again directed
a ball into the Canadian net, also a penalty corner goal. The first half concluded at 4-0 to Netherlands.
In the second half the Dutch men scored another two goals to make it 6-0 at the end. Their fifth goal was scored in the 38th minute while the sixth and the last was scored in the 41st minute. The match concluded at 6-0 to Netherlands.
