  1. No, there was very little damage, and this was in the Chino fault.  The magnitude was only 5.4.

"The disastrous 1989 magnitude 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake was not the “Big One”! If you do not prepare for the next big quake in the Bay Area, you and your family could be left without a home, food and water, medical supplies, and financial resources. START PREPARING NOW!

We know why earthquakes occur here—The Bay Area straddles the boundary where two of the Earth’s largest tectonic plates meet and slowly move past one another. When boundary faults break and the North American and Pacific Plates lurch past each other, quakes occur.

We know large and damaging earthquakes are certain to occur in the future—At least eight faults in the Bay Area are capable of producing earthquakes of magnitude 6.7 or larger. Such quakes can kill and injure many people and cause substantial damage to buildings, roads, bridges, and utilities."

  2. Eh, 5.4 is probably pretty shaky, but probably not BIG compared to how big BIG can be...

They do have my sympathy though. I've only experienced one in my life, a 4.something on my 5th birthday and that was enough as it was.

  3. NO it is sopposed to be like a 9.5the one today was small

  4. Most likely no. I would have heard about it. Predictions say that there should be something a bit more devastating.

  5. i didnt feel it

  6. no. 'the big one' is supposed to be 7.6 or greater

  7. No the big one is still to come

and I'll just say its going to be between 7.0 or greater

  8. Pft, no ! The one yesterday that happened ain't nothing compared to the "big one" that is suppost to happen.

  9. It's not "the big one." I experienced bigger ones than that growing up in SoCal (6.6 in 1971, which caused my bed to roll across the floor). The San Francisco quake of 1906 was a 7.8. The one the experts predict will be much larger than that.

BTW: each degree of magnitude is exponentially higher than the last.
