The Ebor Festival – Four days of top quality horseracing action
York holds some very important horseracing events throughout the year and one of them is the Ebor Festival, which is held at the end of August in England. It is quite an important race meeting and top quality runners are attracted towards it from all over
the world.
A total of four days are always set for the Ebor Festival, starting from Wednesday and the event comes to an end on Saturday. It first started in 1843 and the horseracing fans have been enjoying some fascinating battles since that time.
Juddmonte International, Great Voltigeur Stakes and the Acomb Stakes are the three main events that take place on Wednesday. All of them hold great importance and different owners look to make their names by doing well in these events. The former of the
three races is the most important one and day-one is named after it.
Day-two is called the Ladies' Day and it features the Lowther Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks, which are also quite important. Friday is named as Nunthorpe Day and it holds the following three main events: Nunthorpe Stakes, Gimcrack Stakes and Strensall Stakes.
The final day is known as the Ebor Day and it sums up the four-day race meeting with the Ebor Handicap and Lonsdale Cup.
Another reason why this prestigious festival is important for all the runners is that it is one of the final few meetings of the flat racing season. This is why everyone works extremely hard to do well.
Some of the horses do not participate in any more races after the Ebor Festival, thus they try to do a good job in order to finish the season on a high. It also offers a very handsome amount of cash prize for the winners, thus the best in the business are
attracted towards it.
The most successful owner in the Ebor Festival has been Godolphin. He has always enjoyed a very good time here and has managed to win 19 races in it. Seven of them were Group-1 events, thus it goes onto show that he has earned a lot of prize money out of
it.
Last year, Blue Bunting was successful for Godolphin on one of the races and he will be expecting another good show in the upcoming event.
