The Christmas shopping period throws up a surprise as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim cannot seem to top the PC charts despite being the United Kingdom’s best selling game.
The PC charts have always followed a trend of their own, yet it does come as some surprise when the latest weekly sales charts showed that PC gamers preferred spending their hard earned money on another game.
10. Batman: Arkham City: the game still seems to suffering from a number of problems on the PC. Having been delayed twice by the game’s developer, Rocksteady, Arkham City seemed to miss the hype that was created by its console counterparts.
Add in the fact that the game has issues with DirectX 11 and no patch to address the issue and it seems gamers are waiting for the problem to fix itself before buying it.
9. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations: another AAA title that had its PC version delayed, Revelations fared better than Arkham City, in terms of software issues, yet in the end it is only just one place above the latter despite being glitch free.
8. The Sims 3: Late Night: the first of four The Sims games to feature in this week’s PC charts is Late Night, which figures seeing how there are sure to be many late nights come Christmas.
7. The Sims 3: Generations: another Sims game and another add-on/expansion for the original, Generations is also doing the business for Electronic Arts this festive period.
6. Battlefield 3: With one of the catchiest, hardest to reproduce theme ‘sound’ that any game has had in recent history, Battlefield 3 was designed with the power of the PC in mind. The FrostBite 2 engine which powers the game can be seen
in all its glory on the Personal Computer and that seems enough to keep the game selling.
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: just one place above Battlefield is its bitter, more successful rival, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. There has been plenty of bad blood between the two studios which has made for some eventful moments,
yet for now, it seems that the bragging rights belong to Activision.
4. The Sims 3: the game that started it all and led to more expansion packs that any game should have any right to have released, the Sims 3 continues to sail high.
3. The Sims 3: Pets: be it everyone’s urge to chase after the mail man or answer the call of nature wherever they feel like, it seems the animal part of everyone is making them buy the latest expansion pack to the game.
2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: the game seems to have taken an arrow in the knee, yet where did that arrow come from?
1. Football Manager 2012: the answer this week is the same as the previous weeks: Football Manager 2012. It Christmas, the teams are playing more matches and seasons can be made or broken. No wonder it’s selling so well.
