The Elgin Watch??

Question

I live by this small town in Illinois called Elgin. And when I heard about the Elgin watch I also heard there used to be a watch company in that town too.

I just wanted to know if the Elgin watch company really originated in that town.

Yes, it did!

The original name of the Elgin Watch Company was the National Watch Company, based in Chicago.  But they built their factory in Elgin, Illinois in 1866, and they operated there until 1964, when the company was sold.
