Its called Millenial Cults problem. Every 1000 years people think the world will end.....example 1 Jesus's disciples thought the world was due to end, in 1000 AD people thought the world would end.....in 2001 AD an islamic millenial cult was sure the world was ending because of the wests advance into their culture...9/11 attacks resulted !

The problem is that nowadays the ability to end the world really does exist, as against at the time of Jesus. Distinguish between the world ending versus millenial cults believing they are living at the end of days and themselves bringing about the end of humanity through terrorism and you will see the reason why Bush is trying to quash these islamic millenial cults from arising lest they bring about widespread destruction.Its unfortunate Bush is the only world leader who has the intelligence to see this

Why would they change the calenders and skip 2012? Anyway about your question, it is hard to tell because so much has been said before and maybe that's just how far they mad their calender or decided to stop. Or maybe it's not the end of the world but the world will change, humans will change, stuff like that. Or crappy things will happen during that year and it will be up to us to determine if the world stays or goes.
