The European trio return to do it again in the Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine
The Irish bred 4-year-old colt Joshua Tree is back at Woodbine to defend his title in the 1 ½ mile long the $ 1.5 million Canadian International Stakes, to be held on 16 October, 2011.
The Marco Botti trained colt is not alone, he is back with the last year’s European runner up and third place finisher runners in the Canadian Stakes, while Joshua Tree would be looking to double up the 12 furlong event.
The Canadian International Stakes has lured in a record 16 horses form four different countries in the 16 October renewal at Woodbine.
The 7-year-old Mores Wells, Canadian International Stakes runner up in the 2010 edition also won the 2010 Stockholm Cup International as a prelude to his narrow loss at Woodbine in the International.
This year, the son of Sadler’s Wells, out of Endorsement by Warning, Mores Wells is coming off a third place finish in the same race in Sweden, the Group 3 Stockholm Cup International.
Trainer Mike Delzangles said that they are optimistic that Mores Wells will run a good race this time around and try to win it, he further added that a good ground would be preferred over soft going.
The 5-year-old Charles Hills trained, Redwood is back in the Canadian International mix, and last year the experienced horse benefitted from a brilliant ride by jockey Michael Hill to win the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf at Woodbine, and ended up finishing third in the International.
Redwood hasn’t raced since 29 July, when he raced in the Group 3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood, where he ended up fourth.
Trainer Charlie Hills is of the view that Redwood has always handled the Woodbine track very well in the past, he added the Woodbine race course is a lovely course with a sweeping bend and a long straight, which has always suited Redwood well.
There were heavy rains in the Toronto area on 12 October and it rained a little more on the night of 13 October, with more rain to come before 16 October, the Woodbine track at best would be good or even soft.
