The FIVB Tour comes to Hamamatsu again – Volleyball News
The third round of the 2011 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Site B kicked off on Sunday, November 27, in Hamamatsu, Japan. Six out of the twelve participants of the World Cup travelled to Hamamatsu and installed their bases at the Hamamatsu arena in order to
play the third-round matches. A total of nine matches will be played in three-day’s time. Three matches were covered on Sunday, while the rest of the six matches will be played on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Finally, the teams will travel to Tokyo for
the final round matches.
The Mayor of Hamamatsu, Yasutomo Suzuki, took a lot of pleasure in greeting the FIVB officials to the city government office on Sunday. The mayor welcomed FIVB first executive vice president and control committee president for Site B in Hamamatsu, Mr. Cristobal
Marte Hoffiz in the city.
By taking a glance at the previous volleyball events in Japan, it is easily understandable that FIVB Tour in Japan is never complete without Hamamatsu. The city has great history of serving as a host of the FIVB matches. In past, Hamamatsu hosted event such
as 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship Group B matches, one round of the 2007 FIVB Women’s World Cup and 2003 FIVB Men’s World Cup, Group H matches of 1998 FIVB Men’s World Championship and also the Group H matches of 1995 FIVB World Grand Prix.
The city of Hamamatsu is generally known for its wonderful hospitality to athletes, official staff and volleyball enthusiasts from all around the world. There is another wonderful feature, which is attached with the city, that it offers musical entertainment
during matches. This may also be the reason that Hamamatsu is sometimes labelled as the “City of Music”. On Sunday, a group of about 35 Naruko kindergarten children spell bounded the spectators with their amazing drum line before the start of third match.
Likewise, a large pack of Kabe Kindergarten students greeted the fans on Monday with their captivating musical performance. They also used two parachutes to adding variety to their musical show. Moreover, the city management has designed a lot of other promotional
activities between matches in order to amuse the spectators.
Mr. Marte Hoffiz was indeed happy to see the wonderful arrangement and array of entertainment activities organised by local government. He appreciated the efforts of organisers and thanked them on behalf of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB).
He stated: “It is always a great experience for teams to play in front of the fans in Hamamatsu. Hamamatsu has a long history of FIVB involvement and we have many friends who have dedicated many hours to make this tournament a success. The FIVB thanks all
the volunteers for making this round a success in Hamamatsu.”
