The FIVB names Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca as top team of the year - Volleyball
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) announced the year-end awards for the 2011 Beach Volleyball regular season on Friday, November 25 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The award ceremony was attended by athletes, coaches, referees, and other officials
of the FIVB. As a result of voting, Brazilian superstar 28-year old Juliana Felisberta Silva settled for the tour’s most outstanding women player. This is the third consecutive year that Juliana has done so well to get hold of the top honour of the year.
Juliana combined with equally talented Larissa Franca, captured seven gold medals in the 15 events of 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour. Both players received awards in three individual categories. Apart from the individual awards, they were also named as the
2011 FIVB Swatch World Tour Team of the Year.
The dynamic duo of Juliana and Larissa has earned the women’s Team of the Year award for the sixth time in the last seven years and third straight year now. In the 2011 FIVB Swatch World Tour, they claimed the gold medal in Brasilia, Sanya, the 2011 FIVB
Swatch World Championships in Rome, Gstaad, Stare Jablonki and The Hague.
After being awarded the best player of the 2011 FIVB SWATCH World Tour, Juliana was simply overjoyed with a sense of achievement. She disclosed her emotions in the following manner: “Every year is different. In 2009, I faced it as a prize for my return after
all I had being through. In 2010, even being a winning season, I also got surprised. And now, I was not expecting it. I did not think this was my best season, but all the things we won helped me win this individual prize, which I would like to share with our
sponsor, our staff and Larissa, who made me the best player of the world playing alongside her again.”
Moreover, USA’s Kerri Walsh was honoured with two awards of Best Blocker and Most Inspirational player on the tour. Her teammate April Ross was named as Best Hitter and Best Server. Germany’s Britte Buethe emerged as Top Rookie, while Laura Ludwig was credited
with Best Offensive Player medal. American Misty May-Treanor had Best Defensive Player award, whereas Marta Menegatti of Italy was named Most Improve Player of the year.
