The Factor and Irrefutable still on Bob Baffert’s Breeders’ Cup list
The 5-year-old horse Amazombie, who defeated the Bob Baffert trained duo Irrefutable and The Factor in the Grade 1 Ancient Title at about 6 furlongs at Santa Anita Park’s dirt course on 8 October. The defeat will not tarnish Bob Baffert’s dream to win a Breeders’ Cup race this season.
Irrefutable finished second just behind Amazombie in the Ancient Title, where he was sent at the odds of 6 to 1, and defeated The Factor who was the 2 to 5 favourite in the race in the process might have earned himself a spot in the Breeders’ Cup.
Bob Baffert said that he might try Irrefutable in the Breeders’ Cup (Dirt) Mile if the 3-year-old colt can make it there.
Baffert still believes that Irrefutable was unlucky and he ran a very good race in the Ancient Title.
Despite The Factor’s disappointing performance he finished five lengths behind the winner Amazombie while breaking from the post number 1.
If the Breeders’ Cup Mile is not offered than the son of War Front, The Factor will look to run in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, which is already on his agenda.
In Bob Bafferts’ Breeders’ Cup brigade he will add another runner Euroears, who came back out of a layoff pretty well and showed that he can go the mile in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, on the other hand Coil might not make it Churchill Downs and according to Baffert he will freshen him up a bit.
Bob Baffert added that he will add Drill into the Breeders’ Cup contingent and he will possibly run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and on the other side of it all Game on Dude after a satisfying year will run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic for his trainer.
The Kentucky bred son of Unbridled’s Song, Irrefutable has gone on to win four races out of his 10 starts, and thrice the 5-year-old has rolled in second.
The best race Irrefutable ran was up against Giant Ryan, where he missed it by a neck in the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap at Calder racecourse on 9 July.
