The Factor is favourite to win back to back grade 1 races, going for the Ancient Title at Santa Anita
The Bob Baffert trained 3-year-old colt, The Factor is looking good as he lands 3 out of 4 starts in the 2011 season, including two grade 2 races and a grade 1 race, and now he will be looking to bag another grade 1 race the Ancient Title at Santa Anita
Park on 8 October, 2011.
The son of War Front, out of Greyciousness by Miswaki, The Factor is coming off a win in the Grade 1 Pat O’Brien Handicap where he downed his closest rivals Camp Victory and Crown of Thorns, to win the Del Mar featured on 28 August, covering the 7 furlongs
distance in 1 minute and 21.56 seconds.
The Factor shoots for back to back grade 1 wins against older rivals as he takes on the 5-year-old gelding Amazombie who has been sprinting well this season.
The 5-year-old Doug O’Neill trained, Square Eddie will also be part of the 6 horse field for the six furlong dash on dirt, as he comes off a distant seventh place finish in the Pirate’s Bounty Stakes at about 6 furlongs at Del Mar on 7 September.
The Ted West trained 5-year-old gelding Mensa Heat is on a hot streak of 3 wins in a row and she is coming off a return to the stakes races which she won, the Pirate’s Bounty Stakes at Del Mar over a distance of 6 furlongs under jockey Joe Talamo.
The Factor turned in a half a mile breeze at Santa Anita on the morning of 3 October, where he covered the distance 47 seconds flat, and will be sent as the 5 to 1 favourtie for the Ancient Title.
The defending Breeders’ Cup Sprint champion Big Drama is another one to look out for as he is installed at 6 to 1.
The Bob Baffert will be increasing his chances of winning the Grade 1 Ancient Title by sending in another runner called Irrefutable, the 5-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song hasn’t had a great outing in the stakes race level, and have a second place finish
to show in the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap.
