The Factor is leaning toward the Breeders’ Cup Mile rather than Sprint after his sizzling work at Santa Anita
Trained by Bob Baffert for owner George Bolton and Fog City Stable, 3-year-old colt The Factor turned in an amazing work that turned heads and even made his trainer think about his whole Breeders’ Cup schedule.
The son of War Front, out of Greyciousness by Miswaki, The Factor set the track on fire when he seven furlongs in 1 minute and 22 1/5 seconds at Santa Anita Park on 25 October, 2011.
Initially Bob Baffert was planning to send The Factor to run in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, but after watching him sizzle seven furlongs he intends to send the colt to the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile when pre entries are officially announced on 26 October,
2011.
The Kentucky bred 3-year-old will also be pre entered in the Grade 1 Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint and Baffert is also sending in Euroears, who is already a top contender for the Sprint.
Maybe that is why Bob Baffert is leaning toward the Breeders’ Cup Mile for The Factor, as both horses like to jump to the front and run to victory front on.
The Factor is coming off a disappointing run in the Grade 1 Ancient Title Stakes over at six furlongs at Santa Anita Park on 8 October, 2011, when he was sent as the 2 to 5 favourite.
Amazombie won the race, covering the 6 furlongs sprint in 1 minute and 8.24 seconds as Irrefutable finished second and Mensa Heat third ahead of The Factor.
Since the Ancient Title, The Factor has turned in two quick works. Distance shouldn’t be a problem for The Factor because he has gone on to race on distances ranging from 6 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles and everything in between.
Prior to the Grade 1 Ancient Title Stakes, The Factor turned in a magnificent performance in the Grade 1 Pat O’ Brien Handicap at Del Mar on 28 August, 2011, under his regular jockey Martin Garcia over at 7 furlongs.
The Factor switched to synthetic surface after running on dirt most of his career, but it went well for the colt in the end as he won the race and covered the distance in 1 minute and 21.56 seconds.
