The Farmer's Almanac is warning of a cold winter how can this be?

They are warning of a colder than normal winter east of the Mississippi How can this be with Global warming and ice packs melting ?

Which one is garbage, eh, the claims of a windbag ex-VP or a book that has a REALLY good record of predicting the weather?

As others have indicated with their answers, AGW doesn't mean that it's going to STAY warm!  *laughter*  Ice packs have been melting since day one.  The media tell you about them when they feel there is an opportunity to SCARE you into doing something you wouldn't do normally - like driving less or buying a newer, more fuel efficient car.  *shrug*  Ice packs break apart ALL the time!  It's not a big deal!

global warming does NOT cause just warmer temperatures

Global warming creates unstable and unpredictable weather patterns...like we have been seeing, usually warmer in the east, droughts in the west, more hurricanes, etc

It doesnt mean we'll have pleasant weather

Global warming is not necessarily an indication of warmer temperatures everywhere.  Other places would actually suffer from extremely cold weather, and here's one reason why:

Ocean currents are responsible for a great deal of weather and temperature across the globe.  Currents carry warm and cold weather to places that might otherwise be quite different.  However, global warming upsets the balance of ocean currents, because it is partially the contrast between warm and cold that makes the currents move the way they do in the first place.  If those currents changed or halted, then some of the more northern places that have fairly mild weather (such as the UK and areas northeast of the Mississippi, particularly close to the Atlantic Coast) might get very, very chilly.  Hope that helps!
