The First Colony's on the Moon & Mars?

If you had a chance to be chosen to be among the first

settlers for a pernament colony on the Moon or Mars,

would you accept, or pass up the opportunity? You would

have to stay for a minimum of five years before you could

return to Earth for some R&R, or to stay.

What would NASA have to do to make you want to stay and

population another celestrial body with humans?

I would go in a heartbeat provided I could take some

momentos from Earth.

  1. Five years is a really long time. If I were going to go, I would need to have lots of fun activities available to me. If I were to work with little stopping for 5 years I would go crazy. A week off every now and then could solve this problem. There needs to be more people as well for social reasons

  2. i too would go in a heart beat. i have long been an advocate for interplanetary colinization, and i think its a great idea. i would be king of freaked out at first, but after a while i would get used to it and enjoy every minute of it. i am extreamily interested in astronomy... well obviously, because thats what i do for a living... and i wouldn't pass up the oppurtunity to go to mars or the moon.

  3. It depends on the conditions of the colony.  If it's tiny and cramped like  the ISS, no way.  If the plan was to use local (lunar or martian) materials to make it big and spacious, it might be ok.

  4. Never. Our body has evolved and  adapted to live on earth and not in moon.

  5. The "first" settlers??.....probably not.

Because....the first settlers will have to work out all the issues and problems that will most likely come up.

Not to say...that it would be a bad idea to be a first settler...but...me personally...I couldn't quite do it because of some physical difficulties...but....those not withstanding......I would seriously consider it.

  6. No I would not go. I would like to visit the Moon for a short time, but do not want to be off Earth for more than a week or two.

  7. Colonies, not colony's. Don't they teach English in schools any more?

Yes, I'd go, and I wouldn't care to ever return to Earth.

  8. i would go instantly, the sad thing is i know everyone i never liked would still be here when i got back, the humanity of it all, also i think re-populating would be cool as h**l i'm well into that passing down traits and genes in biology, humans had to start somewhere right, just we'd be on the moon or mars or even better starting a tribal colony where only the strongest survive!!!!! i think i come off the track a bit there
