  1. i read the book for school then got in a car crash got a concussion  and forgot the whole thing all I remember is that the book sucked.

  2. maybe watching the movie will help

  3. Semi-random thoughts:

    1.  The Blue Man--suffered from a serious nervous disorder.  Acquired a freakish appearance due to overdosing on silver nitrate on the theory that if a little medicine is good, a lot is better.  Found a measure of love and acceptance within the carnival at Ruby Pier.

    2.  Captain--found an expression of love through sacrifice.  With respect to the hut, recall that he didn't say, "I don't know, soldier," but rather "I can't tell you, soldier."

    3.  Marguerite--the love of our hero's life.

    4.  Ruby, of Ruby Pier--love can mean sacrifice (caring for her brain-injured husband) and regret (that he had bought the place and then had seen it burned down and incurred injury in trying to help put out the fire).

    5.  Tala--second chances (he had inadvertently burned her to death, but was able to heal both their wounds by washing them away as Filipino parents of Tala's time washed their children).

    Food for thought.

  4. I believe that from the book he viewed love as painful and unfulfilled.  The main character's relationship with his father.
