The Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight looks all set never to happen
Boxing fans all over the world have been looking forward to one of the biggest fights in recent history. That fight is supposed to be between hard hitting American, Floyd Mayweather and the seemingly unstoppable Manny Pacquiao from Philippines. It has been planned for the last year almost with no clear date set yet. Earler, there were various issues from both sides of the table but it seemed the problems had been cleared up. Now a recently released video doing the rounds in cyberspace shows Mayweather racially insulting Pacquiao and upsetting a lot of people in the process. With this video it seems unlikely that the fight will take place now.
Both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are the greatest pound for pound fighters at the moment. While Mayweather has beaten everyone in his path, some say Pacquiao is the greatest boxer alive today. While Pacquiao has gone on to do great things in the ring and in politics in his native country of Philippines, Mayweather has concentrated on boxing and beating everyone. The showdown between these two was supposed to be the greatest fight of the decade and the richest fight that boxing had seen in a long time. Both men were supposed to be paid an insane amount of money for the fight which never took place. There were several reasons why the fight did not happen. In the beginning there was an open invitation from Pacquiao’s camp to the Mayweather camp for the fight to be staged. There was silence from Mayweather’s people for a long time. When they finally did emerge to make a statement, it was to demand that Pacquiao have a blood test taken before they would agree to a fight.
The lead up to this fight started to get even more bizarre when Pacquiao responded that he was afraid of needles and did not want to lose blood right before a fight that was supposed to take place. Now to most boxing fans, blood testing should seem like a pretty routine thing that every boxer should go through. With the host of diseases that are transferable by blood flying around these days and the amount of blood that usually oozes out during an average fight, blood tests should be mandatory. The other thing that a blood test will ensure is the fact that a fighter is not taking any performance enhancing drugs. From the Mayweather camp’s perspective, it seemed as if Pacquiao was making excuses not to go through with the fight and it looked to the Pacquiao camp that Mayweather was making excuses not to fight the Filipino boxer with his demands. Well whatever their reasons were, that issue seems to have been sorted out when the recently elected congressman relented to getting his blood tested. Everything seemed on track again to get the preparations for the fight underway and then once again problems struck.
Recently a video made by the American featuring some of his friends started making the rounds on the internet. The video showed Mayweather hurling abuses at Pacquiao and because trash talking is a part of boxing that part is not so bad, but then he starts to racially abuse the Filipino boxer and then calls him derogatory g*y terms. He then says that he wants to cook Pacquiao and eat him along with cats and dogs, again a racial slur. So in one go; the American fighter has managed to upset a whole bunch of people. He obviously upset Pacquiao and his whole raft of fans. He also upset the g*y and L*****n community and he even managed to provoke animal rights groups with his cats and dogs comment. By spreading the video it seems Mayweather has effectively seen to it that the fight now does not take place. It is unlikely that Manny will fight now without an apology from the American and Mayweather has made a name for himself for never apologising for anything he does. This sticky situation has affected the fans the most. They get deprived of watching two of the best fighters go toe to toe.
With the greatest fight in boxing history now a fleeting dream, it looks like the debate will continue to rage as to who is the better fighter of the two. Many will take sides and weigh up the stats, but until they both step into the ring we will never know for sure. It looks like it will remain an eternal mystery now that the fight is all but cancelled.
