The Foolish Pleasure Stakes draws 6 juvenile runner including Midnight Serenade and Burning Time
Trained by Stephen DiMauro for owner Leanne Robbins, Midnight Serenade, the 2-year-old gelding is having a great run at the Calder race course, with 3 wins out his last 3 starts there, Midnight Serenade will look to extend his unbeaten run in the $100,000
Foolish Pleasure Stakes.
In his last run at Calder race course, Midnight Serenade was competing in the $75,000 Seacliff, run over a mile, and around the two turns Midnight Serenade defeated his 2-year-old rival Burning Time.
Now, the David Fawkes trained 2-year-old colt, Burning Time, will be looking for revenge, as the two promising young colts will hook up again in the Foolish Pleasure on 17 September, 2011.
Son of Bandini, out of Eyepopnruby, Midnight Serenade was looking to take part in the Florida Stallion Series for Florida bred runners, but unfortunately for Midnight Serenade, who is also a Florida bred gelding, couldn’t be eligible for the series.
Hence, his connections had to point him to the Foolish Pleasure Stakes, and this race has now become the main goal for the ever so improving Midnight Serenade.
Jockey Jose Alvarez has guided the filly to cross the finish line first in each of his last three starts, starting from the maiden claimer at Calder over a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.
The race was held on 10 July, 2011, and the pair owned the field and in fine style romped past opponents to post their first victory as a pair, and that is where the rivalry between Midnight Serenade and Burning Time started, as the former downed the latter.
Next up was Midnight Serenade’s maiden special weight races over a distance of 6 furlongs, and Alvarez prompted his gelding under strong urging to take the lead with a furlong to go, and after attaining the lead, the pair never looked back.
The field of six was drawn for the Foolish Pleasure Stakes, and apart from Midnight Serenade and Burning Time there is Signal Hill Farms’ Mucho Mas Macho, Bartolome, who impressed many in his two turn win despite a slow start in his debut, Kings Over and
Personal Interest will complete the lineup.
