The Frankel and Black Caviar clash fever finally simmers down
One of the most anticipated matches for the 2012 season was the £1 million Qipco Sussex Stakes due to the expected clash of the two racing legends, Frankel and Black Caviar. The thrill came crashing down when it was announced by the connections of the Australian
star mare that she will not be racing in the £1 million race at all.
Moody’s representative went on stating: "Moody Racing does not intend running Black Caviar at a mile in the Sussex Stakes, Frankel or no Frankel, as we are looking at getting her back to Melbourne for racing later in the year if she comes through Ascot as
well as she can.”
According to many, both the horses have their own distinct style of racing and specialise over different distances thus bringing them together on the same race course is not justice. These were the reservations put forward by the connections of Black Caviar
whereas Henry Cecil was excited about the encounter as he said:
“I’d love them to meet. It would be good for racing and racing needs champions. But the only race they could meet in would be the Sussex Stakes.”
The race would have proved out to be excruciatingly lucrative for Glorious Goodwood but even the offer from Qipco to raise the purse for the race did not change the minds of Black Caviar’s connections. They were pleased at the offer but were in no mood of
testing their mare at a distance that she is not used to race at.
The Peter Moody trained has plans during the next month for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at the Royal Ascot raced over six furlongs. Later during the season they plan to take her back to Melbourne for races.
As far as the future plans of Frankel are concerned, he will let go of the ten furlongs Prince Of Wales’s Stakes rather he will stick to the safer distance of the Queen Anne. Keeping him restricted to a mile is only temporary as the trainer plans to step
him up when the Eclipse or the Juddmonte are close.
With the Sussex Stakes goes all the possibility and chance of the two unbeaten racing champions contesting together. Each of the two has a different skill set along with individual accomplishments and it is in the best interests for both of them to not let
their paths meet.
