The Fugue – A filly loaded with talent
John Gosden has trained a lot of successful runners throughout his career and is considered to be one of the most successful trainers of all time. One of his challengers is, The Fugue, who is quite new to the sport, but seems to have the skills of becoming
one of the best in the business.
The three-year-old filly made her debut in competitive racing last year in October and made her mark straight away with a comprehensive victory at Newmarket. She was priced 14 to 1 for the class-4 event and was not expected to be fighting at the front.
Despite that, Gosden’s trainee proved to be pretty much competitive and took the top spot by one and a half length. Her speed was impressive, as she made a lot of ground to get into lead. This was her only outing in 2011, as she was rested for a few months
by her team.
The start to the 2012 season did not prove to be an ideal one for Dansili’s daughter, as she failed to win a Group-1 event. Although it was a difficult task for her, yet she was expected to be competitive. She did give a tough time to her rivals and finished
fourth in the end, which was not a bad result.
However, The Fugue proved to be unmatchable in a Group-3 event, as she won it comfortably by four and a half lengths. She was not the favourite to prevail that time around, but caused an upset in the end.
This performance pleased Gosden and he praised his filly by saying, “The Fugue is a very nice filly. York was the first major meeting to start on good ground. The Fugue was asked a big question. She came out of that well and won nicely at York.”
Following her success at York, she gave a couple of more decent performances, before winning another event. This was quite an important victory, as it came in a Group-1 race. The Fugue was partnered by Richard Hughes for the first time in her career back
then and the combination proved to be a good one in the end.
The Lord Lloyd-Webber’s owned filly is certainly capable of achieving a lot more in her career and her team will be looking forward to a successful future.
