The Fugue likely to compete in the Investec Oaks at Epsom after a victory in the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes
It seems like it was a lucky night for trainer John Gosden and jockey William Buick, as their runner, The Fugue, crushed the competition and earned a spot among the winners in the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York on 16th May,
2012.
The daughter of Dansili, out of mare, Twyla Tharp, raced with a chance of 15-8, and with her swift pace, defeated race favourite, Twirl, by 4 ½ lengths.
The three-year-old filly’s victory was massive and her connections were exceptionally pleased with the victory.
The brown filly failed to deliver in the Group 1 Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket on 6th May, 2012, as she finished fourth, but this victory has confirmed her ride in the Investec Oaks at Epsom, which is scheduled to
take place on 1st June, 2012.
William Buick commented on her performance after the race saying:
“She felt very good. She was a little bit keen early on and she's still inexperienced, so when horses come around her, she's a very reactive filly. I just tried to get her to settle and she picked up really well - she's class.”
The jockey stated that the young runner has “tactical speed” which is essential for a race like the Investec Derby.
He further went on to say that the performance at Newmarket wasn’t unlucky, but it certainly was not an enjoyable experience for her.
This is only the third start of her career, which has ended in success.
This shows that the Lord Lloyd-Webber owned filly is prepared for bigger and better opportunities where she can continue to score in a similar manner.
John Gosden commented that the Guineas was unlucky for her, but she can definitely perform better.
The good to soft ground did not suit her which is why her performance suffered. The trainer elaborated that if it rains at Epsom, he will change course and run his filly in the French Oaks instead.
To the press, he stated that: "If there's a lot of rain, she'll revert to France instead," he elaborated on this, "She's got those dainty, ballerina feet, so the ground is very important to her."
