The Futures Players Championship will continue for three more years
Hickory Point Golf Course will continue hosting The Futures Players Championship till 2013.
According to latest reports, the tournament board and the LPGA Futures Tour have signed an agreement that will keep the Futures Players Championship in Decatur for the next three years. As far as the title sponsor is concerned, the event will be backed up
by the Tate & Lyle as stated in the agreement.
Form the 2011 events, the Tate & Lyle Players Championship will be held next year from the 16th of June till the 19th of the same month and will return for a free admission event.
According to Cindy Deadrick, who is the Tournament Director, the support provided by the Tate & Lyle, the community and their other sponsors is priceless and they are highly grateful for it. The director said that the only reason that they have scheduled
the tournament again is because of the last years results.
Deadrick said that even though the event scheduled for the next three years is free for the community; the management is planning a lot to add to the affair that will engage the community further. The director explained that the tournament is about to face
changes that will help in building the required excitement regarding the event that is shaping the star performers of tomorrow.
“We will be integrating many new elements to the event”, Deadrick said.
The championship is a platform that attracts one of the most capable and daring squad from women’s golf. It is also one of the highest paying golf tournaments to have ever been put into action and holds prize money of $ 125,000.
In 2009, the title resided with female golfer, Jennifer Song, who graciously bestowed the event with one third of her winning amount. The donation was made to Decatur children’s charities so as to help those people who are aptly volunteering for the good
of the community and those that have been helping the event itself for more than 26 years.
According to Chris Olsen, this event has become more of a tradition in summer. Olsen is the Vice President of Community and Government Relations and said that this is now a must event for the Decatur Community every summer and Tate & Lyle is one of its most
proud title sponsors. The vice president further stated that the event is in a way complimenting Tate & Lyle's stress on the importance on health, wellness, and fitness.
Jennifer Song will be next playing in her rookie season on the 2011 LPGA Tour. With the event being a 72-hole championship, The Futures Players Championship has always been able to attract more than 8000 spectators.
