The Galloping Shoe to step down in the Chill Out Spa Handicap at Haydock
The Class 5 Chill Out Spa Handicap will be held at Haydock over a mile, two furlongs and ninety-five yards on Thursday, 24th May. The race has attracted a line-up of sixteen four-year and older contestants who will compete for the £2,264 prize money.
Only two entries among the candidates have raced at Haydock. One of them has won at the race course through the most recent outing that he undertook while the other one ended fifth during the previous season.
The Galloping Shoe, Observatory’s seven-year-old bay gelding out of mare, My Way, bagged the seasonal debut that he raced at Haydock.
The seven-year-old has remained winless throughout the previous season and has won after a severely long drought. The Galloping Shoe won the Concourse Pharmacy 25th Anniversary Handicap on 28th April at Haydock over a mile and two and a half furlong.
Even after so long, the win was not a piece of cake as he was only at a head’s difference from the 7/4 favourite runner up, Media Hype. The winner was paired up with Jim Crowley.
Settling third behind the winner was Number Theory.
The last time that he raced at Haydock was on 1st July in the Happy Birthday Bobbie Sutton Handicap over a mile and two and a half furlong. The race was won by Watercourse while the 9/4 favourite of the race, Voodoo Prince, ended third.
The Galloping Shoe himself was the last entry to conclude the race on the field of nine contestants.
He is in for the second career start today and that too at the same race course. If he can win once there, there is not much that can stop him for reeling in for the wire before the rest today.
He will find it lucrative to look out for Kodicil, Kodiac’s four-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Miss Caoimhe. He has not performed impressively in the seasonal debut but then again is the only one among the line-up (other than The Galloping Shoe) with hands on experience of racing at Haydock.
He finished fifth in the Betdaq The Betting Exchange Haydock Park Apprentice Training Series Handicap on 23rd September over a mile and two and a half furlong.
