The German Women beat Ireland 3-0 in EuroHockey Nations Championship in Monchengladbach, Germany
The German Women athletes scored an impressive victory over the Irish outfits defeating them by 3-0 in their opening Pool B match of the GANT EuroHockey Nations Championship (women), played at the Warsteiner Hockey Park in Monchengladbach, Germany on Saturday,
August 20.
The German athletes seemed much disciplined in their approach as they showed a number of attacking moves along with an obsolete defence throughout the match. They were the dominant partner of the game as they scored two goals in the first thirty five minutes
and made a solo strike in the second part of the game while their opponents struggled to do any damage in the entire match.
Gene Muller, the Irish coach looked quite hopeful for a much better show in the remaining games of the event.
"We got off to the worst possible start, conceding within 2 minutes. At the end of the day we are of course disappointed to lose a game but we cannot be disappointed with who won the game, Germany played very well, they have a strong midfield which is difficult
to defend and we were outplayed," Gene Muller, the coach of the Irish women’s hockey team, stated after the match.
The first half started with a great action by the German Women as they opened their account just two minutes into the first half when Natascha Keller scored a stunning field goal in the 2nd minute. The Germans had to wait for almost 20 minutes
to double their lead as the Irish Women tightened their defence very well. However, in the 23rd minute the Germans succeeded to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty stroke on which the skipper, f***y Rinne made no mistake and increased
the German lead. The first half concluded at 2-0 to Germany.
The second half also belonged to the German Women as they scored their third goal in the second phase of the game. Although the Germans were not as impressive as in the first half yet they manage to score their third goal in the 48th minute when
Julia Muller converted a penalty corner into a beautiful goal that lasted till the end. The match concluded at 3-0 to Germany.
The Germans put in a tremendous performance as they managed to keep the Irish offence from scoring a single goal throughout the entire match. The Irish will be looking to improve their performance in their next match-up. The Germans played aggressively and
took a positive step in the tournament with this victory. It will be interesting to see how the Germans carry their winning momentum into their next match.
