The Giants Reign Victorious Over The Phillies, Winning 3-0
The San Francisco Giants won Game 3 of the playoffs, with home run king, Barry Bonds watching and cheering from the front row, with a final score of 3-0.
The game started out uneventful until the bottom of the 4th when the Giants came to bat. With Cole Hamels pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies, Edgar Renteria and Pat Burrell each got one home run after singles from Cody Ross and Aubrey Huff.
The Phillies were now ahead, hitting two home runs after three scoreless innings at 2-0.
The last and final run of the game was by Aaron Rowand after a single by Freddy Sanchez. The Giants won the game with the final score, 3-0.
Center fielder Ross continued his best impression of Barry Bonds after hitting three runs in the last two games at Philadelphia and hit a single in Game 3 to break a scoreless tie.
"He plays with no fear," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "That's what you love about the guy.
After coming to the plate with cries of “Cody! Cody!” arising from the stands, Ross said "It's an easy name to chant, that's probably why. Two syllables. It's been an unbelievable experience for me so far. A month and a half, two months, ago, I didn't dream
I'd be in this situation. The Giants were awesome to bring me over here. It's just been a great ride."
The last time the Giants won the World Series was in 1954, as the New York Giants, with a star lineup, consisting of players such as Willie Mays and Dusty Rhodes.
This postseason, the unlikely hero who may take the Giants to the World Series seems to be Ross, who had a lifetime of only .265.
"He's our spark plug," said Huff.
"He's definitely hot," Hamels stated about his opponent, Ross. "He's been battling and hitting pitches that most normal people can't hit at this time."
So what would be the best way of bringing Ross down?
Hamels seemed to have an answer, jokingly saying “Hit him.”
After winning the first game of the playoffs by one run, the Giants were hopeful at the start of the second, but that feeling did not last long. The Phillies put on a great show, defeating the Giants, 6-1, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. In Game 2,
Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt struck out nine batters and Jimmy Rollins drove in four runs.
The next game will be on Wednesday October 20, 2010 between San Francisco and Philadelphia in the Giants’ home field, AT&T Park, in San Francisco. The game is scheduled to start at 7:57 PM ET.
