The Giants end Bobby Cox’s career to go forward in the Playoffs (Part 4)
Atlanta Braves were on a quest to make it through to the National League Championship. However that wasn’t the only goal. Manager Bobby Cox had declared earlier in the 2010 major league baseball season that this was going to be
his last year as the head of the team. With the ball club trailing in the playoffs against the San Francisco Giants by 1 – 2 wins, it was essential for the roster to produce a good score in front of their home crowd in the Turner Field.
The effort was there but the results were not forthcoming. Derek Lowe was the man to present the Giants with the threat in the strike zone. However, it was the weak Braves offense that failed to keep Cox in the manager’s attire
for longer than Monday. Lowe pitched into the 6th inning with no runs scored off his deliveries. It was in the top 6th that the ace man conceded a run in the whole match. The injury sustained grew larger in the 7th inning as
San Francisco piled up on the pressure and converted two opportunities into runs.
Madison Bumgarner was right on the mark and even though he conceded a couple of runs earlier in the game, his importance to the Giants was quite evident. While shortened by two runs from the Braves hitting faction, the youngest
post season pitcher for the Giants was showcasing his talents by replying back with tremendous throws towards the batters. He eventually went to win the series deciding fixture for the team. The ball thrower became the first Giant’s youngest player to win
a playoff game. He also achieved the mark of becoming the 2nd youngest man in Post season history, to win the series in a deciding fixture.
The San Francisco clinched victory through a run advantage and for the playoffs that was not a recurring event. Every series game between the two sides produced a winner through a single run advantage. To say the least, the teams
were on a particular plane that transcended reality itself. For the Giants, the victory was so much sweeter. The last game in particular was followed by some ups and downs that kept spectators at the edge of their seats. Omar Infante was the hitter to start
the hitting show for the Braves but his run was equalized by Cody Ross’ homer in the top 6th. The first 5 innings depicted a closely contested campaign and as the series came to a close, the Giants were the tall ones standing.
Madison Bumgarner has been a leading player in the youngsters’ list. His 22 matches in the career have come mostly from the 2010 Major League Baseball season. His Earning runs average at the end of the game on Monday depicted a
whole number of 3. The fast pitcher featured in 18 games during the season and struck out 86 players in the process. For a 21 year old, the figure was staggering to say the least. In addition, his recent game saw him earn 2 runs off 6 hits. In addition to
that, he struck out 5 hitters and pitched for 6 innings. The night was a special one for the maestro and his performance was good enough to please the coaches.
Derek Lowe on the other hand, was a player who spanned his career over 13 professional baseball year. To say the least, his age describes him as a pitcher who was 16 years older the Giants ace man. For what it was worth, the veteran
gave the rivals a hard time on the pitch and even though he had an amazing tally going into the 6th inning, his performance dipped enough to lead San Francisco to the victory.
He allowed 2 hits off which 3 runs were scored. In addition to that his Earning Runs Average fell to 2.31.
