The Giants end Bobby Cox’s career to go forward in the Playoffs (Part 6)
The San Francisco Giants were always in favour of crossing over to the National League championship when they faced off against the Atlanta Braves in the Turner Field. They were up 2 – 1 in the series and day 4 brought out both
teams for a possible final outing on the ground in the playoffs. In addition to that, Bobby Cox was facing his possible last game in the manager’s seat. With 44, 532 fans in the stands of the ground, many were expecting the series to be pushed into the 5th fixture.
However, that didn’t happen as Bruce Bouchy’s roster took out the Braves in the 7th inning with a 3 – 2 lead. The team celebrated their first win 8 years and before they continued on with the festivities, the tipped
their caps to honour Bobby Cox who made his way out of the dugout to greet the crowd for his contribution to the team and the fans of the game.
Bouchy was there to congratulate his counterpart on a good game and offered a few words to the departing manager who has done so much for the league, “This series had everything. Just the intensity and excitement of the series,
it had to be thrilling for the fans. There was never an easy moment for Bobby or myself, because these games could have gone either way."
The Giants were up to honouring the Braves skipper and one hitter from the team, Cody Ross was there in the post match press conference to pass on a message to Cox, "He's the best manager for me that's ever managed the game. I
got a chance to play against him for five years. I love coming in here seeing him. I want to congratulate the Braves on a fine season and him on a great career."
Now with the Giants going into the National League championship to face the Philadelphia Phillies, it is important to note which players will likely affect the fixtures scheduled for the later date. The first game will be played
against the rivals’ Roy Oswalt who will be well rested and ready for San Francisco.
For a team being dubbed as the real World Series Champions in the making, the East Title winners will be the favourites in the upcoming series. It still has to be seen whether the Giants have the right combination of players to
throw their rivals off track.
San Francisco Giants
Tim Lincecum: Tim has been effective as the starting pitcher in the normal season. The 26 year old was amazingly potent in registering low Earning Runs Average. He ended his 2010
season with a 3.43 figure. He ranked 1st in the league’s strike outs and his 16 wins in 33 games witnessed an offensive approach in the games. In his last game against the Atlanta Braves on the 7th of October, the ball thrower pitched
9 innings and conceded just 2 hits in a complete shut out contest in the match. In that outing alone he struck out an amazing 14 batter off the strike zone. His start against the Phillies will be a one to see when the National League championship takes place.
Aubrey Huff: Huff has been instrumental in getting the Giants to a victory in the season. His batting average speaks volumes about his contribution to the team. His batting average of .290 gives the big
hitter an added attribute in going up against the likes of Roy Oswalt, Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies. During his season long 157 games, he smashed 26 home runs and scored in 86 runs batted in. His form in the playoffs has not peaked
but San Francisco fans will be hoping the star batman will be able to add on the difference in the coming days ahead.
