The Golf Week Challenge: R1 and R2 recap
The Golf Week Challenge is currently being played at the Spirit Hollow golf course. In its first round Iowa held the lead following 18 holes of action. And in second place, were the Hawkeyes program, with a 268 at 20 under.
On Monday, at the second round of the Conference Challenge, only three programs were able to break par. The conditions the course presented were rather tough and forced high scores that made the score boards. In the second round,
Liberty stood at the eighth place.
The host of the event, Iowa, held the lead at the 1st round of the event and achieved an impressive score of 268 with a 20 under par. At the second round, Iowa was seen still in the leading position with 285 at 3 under
par. The overall lead Iowa holds over other teams is calculated to be 553 with a 23 under par.
In the midst of the three rounded event, Campbell managed to play an exceptionally good 18 hole game and shared the 2nd place with North Carolina by scoring a 298 with 1 over par. The Camels at the three day event carded
5 under amounting to 283 who held the second position with a total of 573. This score individually in both previous rounds was recorded as 289 and 283.
From the first two rounds at the Spirit Hollow (which includes 12 to 75 programs from the last season) the two programs that rounded up the event’s top five programs are New Mexico and Baylor. Mexico in R1 and R2 managed to card
285 and 288 while Baylor in these rounds carded a 285 and 288. Both of these programs are the last part of the 15 teams that are at par 573 at 3 under Par.
Liberty was recorded at 8th place on the leader board due to its 295. On Monday the program achieved a 7 under par with a total of 8 over 584. The program carded 289 and 295 at round one and two, with a total of 31 shots
behind the host-leader Iowa.
From the golfers who individually made it to the top of the boards, three golfers were from the Hawkeyes program and had Vince India at the top. At his second round, India finished his round with a 66 with a 6 under par. In the
first however, he managed a 70 making it a total of 136 with an 8 under par.
Scott Smith carded 68 and 69 and Brad Hopfinger carded 65 and 72 which tied both of them for the second place. Scott is from Nevada and Hopfinger from Iowa were seen at this place due to their 7 under par 137. Round one was lead
by Iowa’s Chris Brant who was in the second round dropped to the fifth place with a 139 at 5 under. He scored a 64 and 75 which displayed his 11 stroke difference.
As far as the Flames are concerned, their velocity was determined by Chase Marinell and Robert Karlsson. Both of these players were tied for 19th place holding an even par of 144. Karlsson faced a rocky situation during
the first five holes of the second round, he played two bogeys regretfully which placed him 2 over par for the round and 1 over par overall. At the 7th However, Karlsson got back in action by attaining a birdie on the par 3 hole. He attained the
title of Big South Golfer of the year 2010 and carded the score of 71 and 73. At the 11th he played another bogey and ended the day with 1 over 73 and even par 144.
