The Grade 1 Whitney Handicap seems be wide open, anyone can claim the prize on 6 August, 2011 at Saratoga
The 2011 Grade 1 Whitney Handicap Invitational post positions also reveal the horses participating in the $750,000 event, and it keeps reminding how open this year’s race at Saratoga is going to be.
With the likes of Flat Out popping as a winner in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park, raises questions whether he can build on it or not?
Then we have a similar story of the son of Tiznow, the 6-year-old horse, Tizway barging through to take the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap also called the Met Mile at Belmont Park on 30 May, 2011, leaves doubts in the mind of the bettor, whether to go for
the favourite or these potential winners.
On paper the race seems wide open as any other Grade 1 race would look, but then again it comes down to just two horses that could win the race, but it is possible that the any of the remaining nine horses participating in the race could go on to win it.
On top of it there is so much on the line in the 6 August, 2011, Whitney Handicap. To start with, the massive purse of $750,000 it has to offer and most importantly the winner of the race will most probably stand on top of the unsettled handicap division.
Last but not least, the winner of the race will get an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic to be held at Churchill Downs, with the huge purse of $5 million on offer, plus the winner will get their entry fee waived off and will get a $10,000 traveling
allowance.
So it’s sweet to win the Whitney, it will definitely take the winner places.
Giant Oak is another one to look out for, with a Grade 1 victory back in February 2011 at Gulfstream Park in the Donn Handicap. His last race was at the Churchill Downs where he finished fifth in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap.
The Albert Stall Jr. 4-year-old colt Apart won the Grade 3 Schaefer Handicap under jockey Garrett Gomez over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles at the Pimlico on 21 May, 2011.
He finished one and a half length over Duke of Mischief, another Whitney entrant, in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap and finished third behind Mission Impazible and Pool Play.
Flat Out is still the favourite to win the race with the odds of 4 to 1, second to that is the highly regarded Friend to Foe with the odds of 8 to 1, third on the card is John Velazquez ride Morning Line sent at 10 to 1 and so on.
