The Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes reel in a massive yet inexperienced field of 14 fillies at Arlington Park
The Grade 3 $100,000 Pucker up Stakes at Arlington Park managed to reel in 14 three-year-old fillies to participate in its 1 1/8 mile grass race which often serves as a solid stepping stone for the all important Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at
Keeneland next month.
Though the fillies who have entered the race have not won a graded stakes race between them, but the volume of the field suggests that out of so many some would stand out and show that they have what it takes to right up there.
It will be the first attempt of these 14 three-year-old fillies to go out there and fight to join the ranks of those graded stakes' winning runners.
The top half of the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes shows potential with the likes of Thomas Proctor trained Marketing Mix.
She is fresh out of a win in the Wonder Where at Woodbine racecourse on grass, as she won over a distance of 1 ¼ miles for the first time in her career, with a winning time of 2 minutes and 1.21 seconds.
The 3-year-old Andrew Hansen trained filly, Trac N Jam, has also been among the winning horses this year.
She is 2 of 4 out of 6 starts, winning her maiden over a distance of 1 1/16 miles in her second attempt at Arlington Park.
Then she was sent to compete in an allowance race, stretching up to a mile, also at Arlington Park on 24 June, 2011, winning in 1 minute and 37.26 seconds.
The El Corredor filly, Trac N Jam took part in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes right after her 2 wins in a row, but at Saratoga, the filly couldn’t keep up with the likes of Hungry Island and Kathmanblu, as she finished fifth on 21 August, 2011.
Summer Savory is also one of the horses to look out for, considered favourite to win the race, right up there with Marketing Mix and Trac N Jam.
