The Grade 3 winning filly Rocket Twentyone works six furlongs at Churchill Downs ahead of the Breeders’ Cup next month
Frank K. Fletcher’s 2-year-old filly Rocket Twentyone, worked in preparation for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Grey Goose Juvenile Fillies over at a muddy Churchill Downs track on 21 October, 2011.
Under the guidance of regular jockey Eddie Razo Jr. the undefeated filly went six furlongs in 1 minute and 15.60 seconds. Jockey Eddie Razo arrived in Louisville on the night of 20 October to be part of Rocket Twentyone’s move before her big race.
The workout was recorded in fractions, and galloped out seven furlongs in 1 minute and 29 4/5 seconds. According to Razo the filly went really well on the muddy track, though Rocket Twentyone slipped a bit on the turns, but when she was asked to go, she
turned up the tempo real nice.
Over less than optimal conditions, the workout was done under the watchful eyes of trainer Tom Howard and he was happy with what he saw.
We’re happy with how she went today, especially with the (muddy track),” Howard said in a statement. “We also didn’t want to go too fast and make her do more than she had to. She worked beautifully.”
The daughter of Indian Charlie, out of Symphonic Lady by Blare of Trumpets, Rocket Twentyone is coming out of a successful run in the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Lassie at Arlington Park on 10 September, 2011.
Under jockey E Razo, the juvenile filly defeated Essence of Bubbles and Ann of the Dance, in the process while covered the distance of 1 mile in 1 minute and 39.13 seconds.
Rocket Twentyone ran over the Arlington Park’s synthetic surface and she will have to make a shift on the dirt track when she will run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, which is run on dirt and over the distance of 1 1/16 miles restricted for juvenile
fillies.
The race will be held at Churchill Downs on 4 November, 2011, where Rocket Twentyone will come up against fillies like Self Preservation, My Miss Aurelia, Candrea, Grace Hall, Weemissfrankie and Stopshoppingmaria.
Total of 11 fillies will take part in the race and decide the fate of the juvenile top fillies contenders, because winning a Breeders’ Cup race would surely get them into the conversation.
