The Graham Motion trained State Of Play still has a bright future ahead of him
Last year, the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes were held at Saratoga, and it was the Graham Motion trained, State Of Play, who completed the 1 1/16 mile race and took the money home.
Paired with rider, Ramon Dominguez, he completed the race in 1 minute and 43.97 seconds. The second place was secured by Optimizer, while the Dale Romans trained, Dullahan finished third.
This race was one of the shining moments of State Of Play’s career since it all went downhill for him after that victory.
Prior to this, he broke his maiden at Saratoga where he aced the 5 ½ furlong track and defeated, Sark, in 1 minute and 02.99 seconds.
Following the victory at the With Anticipation Stakes, the son of War Front tried his luck in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, but failed to dominate the 1 1/16 miles and finished 12th.
The next stop for him was the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on 4th February, 2012.
After three starts on turf, he took on the dirt track but unfortunately things did not go as well for him as he had hoped.
With rider Alan Garcia on his back, he finished in the seventh spot over the 1 1/16 mile race.
Foaled by Procida mare Valeta, the colt picked up well in his next start and redeemed himself in the John Battaglia Memorial over a synthetic surface and conquered the 1 1/16 miles with the help of jockey Victor Lebron.
He completed the race in 1 minute and 46.55 seconds and beat, Ill Conceived, while Mark Casse’s charge, Dynamical, finished in third place.
The Team Valor International owned runner ran in the Grade Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland in June, 2012, and stood third.
The three-year-old still has it in him and he can have a brilliant career. He just needs to step it up and be on top of his game in the next starts.
With an overall record of 3-0-1 in 6 starts, things are looking up for him.
Currently, he has earnings worth $176,500, but with more starts, that figure is likely to change.
