If we are talking about sports related achievements, I am going to have to say the U.S. men's hockey team winning the Gold medal (first beating the Russian team) in 1980. It was not expected AT ALL. While Phelps and Armstrong's accomplishments were both awe inspired, amazing feats. They were never really the underdogs that the U.S. hockey team was. Unless you remember it happening you really cannot understand. I was 12 when they won and it was an incredible moment in U.S. sports history.

Both of their achievements are awesome in my opinion  but if i had to choose one I'll have to go with Armstrong.
