ACTIVE DEMOCRACY - Selecting leaders FROM the people

To select better leaders, we must find a way to select the most principled of our people as our representatives. The method must be democratic (i.e., allow the entire electorate to participate), egalitarian (i.e., give everyone an equal chance to participate), and it must be in harmony with natural human responses.

So begins an article which can be found at http://www.myverdict.net/articles/intarticle.php?articleID=11

myverdict.net has been asked to provide a focal point for -

'The Great Direct Democracy Experiment' -

an attempt to select a candidate, using the system described in the article, who will stand for office and, if elected, use myverdict.net as one of the tools to enable him/her to be responsive to the will of the majority of his/her constituents.

You can register your interest to be part of this experiment in direct democracy, by visiting http://www.myverdict.net

  1. If you're selecting representatives, it's not direct democracy, it's representative democracy.

  2. In this age of such advanced technology all decisions could be made by referendum thereby removing the need for representatives who ALWAYS forget who they are meant to be representing. Electronic voting on all issues I say.
