The Group 3 Brownstown Stakes postponed as Fairyhouse declared unfit for racing
Due to excessive rain, the track at Fairyhouse has been declared unfit for racing. The racetrack is completely waterlogged, and after thorough inspection, it was decided that it is better if the event is cancelled.
Course officials made this decision after a 3.30pm inspection on the afternoon on 3rd July, 2012, and called off the event.
Fairyhouse was supposed to host a seven-card fixture on 4th July, 2012, but it has rescheduled to the next Tuesday, which is the 10th of July, 2012, giving the ground a chance to dry out.
Peter Roe, Fairyhouse general manager, commented that it rained in June more than it did in the beginning of the whole yearon the , he stated:
"We're gone I'm afraid, it's absolutely saturated. We thought we might have a chance, but it just hasn't improved.
"We've had 173 millimetres of rain since June 1, which is more than the whole of January, February and March put together."
The Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Brownstown Stakes was one of the scheduled races on the postponed card, which covered a distance of seven furlongs. Fire Lily, Marvada, After, Bulbul,
and Singing Bird were the ones to take part in the race.
The A.P. O’Brien trained, After, was expected to deliver, since the bay filly turned in an impressive run in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown on 14th June, 2012, where she was defeated by the David Wachman trained,
Fire Lily, by ¾ of a length over a distance of six furlongs.
This event would have given the rivalry a chance to renew itself, since Fire Lily is at the top of her game. The daughter of Dansili, out of mare Beauty Is Truth, had raced as a favourite in her last two starts and had popular support in this race.
Fire Lily had an opportunity to compete against her stable-mate, Singing Bird, who delivered a massive victory in her maiden at the Curragh, when she competed in the P.G. Duffy and Sons Citroen Maiden over a distance of seven furlongs.
The daughter of Excellent Art, out of mare Anna Deesse, finished fourth to winner, Alanza, in the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown on 14th June, 2012.
