The Gujarat Kensville Challenge will raise the curtains for the 2013 Challenge Tour season
The 2013 European Challenge Tour season is once again set to raise its curtains by staging the Gujarat Kensville Challenge, from January 31 to February 3, 2013.
The tournament will be staged at the Kensville Golf & Country Club, featuring a total of 120 players from different parts of the world, vying for a share of €200,000 prize purse.
As the tournament is also sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India, it will feature 57 PGTI members, who will compete against 63 Challenge Tour members.
Sameer Sinha, Managing Director of Kensville Golf and & Country Club, expressed his pleasure in hosting the event for the third time in a row.
He felt proud in hosting the Challenge Tour’s season-opener and said that the tournament has greatly served the purpose of developing the game of golf in the region.
“Kensville is delighted to welcome the 2013 GKC once again this year. Our association with the European Challenge Tour has truly been a privilege,” he said.
“It has brought an event of international calibre to Gujarat and has served the purpose of popularising golf in India very well,” he added.
Alain de Soultrait, Director of the Challenge Tour, also confirmed that the tour will then travel to Kenya for the second tournament on the roster, the Barclays Kenya Open.
“We are delighted to be getting the 2013 Challenge Tour season off to such a great start on two fantastic courses at Kensville in India and Karen in Kenya,” he said. “The weather in the two countries is perfect and the quality of the hospitality at both
venues is always of the highest calibre”.
It will be the first time since 2008 that the Barclays Kenya Open will be staged at the Karen Golf Club in Nairobi. According to the schedule, the event will be played from February 14 to 17, 2013.
The 21st edition of the tournament will offer a total of €195,000 as prize fund, to the participants.
Patrick Obath, Tournament Director of the Barclays Kenya Open, said that the change of venue speaks of their ability to stage world-class events in different parts of the country.
