Arsenal Football Club, also commonly known as The Gunners, is one of the top professional football clubs in England. This prestigious club is based in Holloway, North London.
Arsenal are one of the most successful clubs in English football and play in the Premier League. They have had the honour of winning 13 First Division and Premier League titles and 10 FA Cups. They remained unbeaten for 49 matches, with 36 wins and 13 draws,
which is also the longest unbeaten run in the Premier League.
After being founded in 1886, Arsenal became the first club from the south of England to join the Football League in 1893. By the 1930s Arsenal had earned seven prestigious titles, which included five league titles and two FA cup trophies. Arsenal came back
hard, after the lean period post World War 2, and became the second club of the 20th century to win the Premier League and FA Cup double, during the season of 1970-71. From the 1990s to the first decade of 21st Century, they secured a
lot of victories. This period gave Arsenal success in securing two further FA Cup doubles. They also achieved the title of being the first London club to participate in the UEFA Champions League Final.
The club is known by its colours Red and White which have been pretty much persistent since it was initially founded. The venue however changed from Woolwich, South-East London, where it was founded, to Highbury, North-London (1913). This ground has hosted
most of Arsenal’s matches.
By 2006, it was decided that the venue be moved to a close by location in Holloway. This new venue, which exists to-date and is the home to the Gunners, is called the Emirates Stadium.
Estimates suggest that Arsenal have about 27 million supporters worldwide, and growing.
With victory comes rivalry, and the gooners, which is the nickname for Arsenal fans, have their rivalries with their neighbours Tottenham Hotspur, with whom they contest the North London derby.
As of 2010, Arsenal are officially the third most valuable club in England, at $1.2 billion.
Arsenal Football Club has, and continues to show their supporters that they are one of the top teams of England. They are one entertaining team, and they manage to surprise their rivals and fans every time.
