The Highly Talented Brazilian Footballer Ronaldinho
Ronaldinho is a Brazilian footballer who impressed the world with his amazing football skills and dribbling abilities. He currently plays for AC Milan and was until recently a mainstay in the Brazilian national team as well. Coming from a footballing family,
Ronaldinho seems to have the game in his genes. He is a master attacking midfielder and left winger and his presence seems to have been sorely missed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa this summer. With him called back up to the national squad, it
looks like we are going to be seeing a lot more of this amazing footballer on the international stage in the years to come.
Ronaldinho’s father was also a footballer who played for a local club in Brazil. His brother Roberto was a football player as well with a promising career with local club Grêmio but his football days were cut short by injury. Ronaldinho started playing football
at a young age and started to impress people with his skills with the ball and his ability to score goals. At the age of thirteen, he once scored 23 goals in a match. This display, plus his performance at the Under 17 World Championship, caught the eyes of
scouts for the Grêmio club and they signed the young man to their youth squad. He then moved to the senior level and made his senior debut at the 1998 Copa Libertadores tournament in Brazil.
By this point in his career, the Brazilian was getting noticed by international clubs in Europe. The first clubs to express interest in signing him was Arsenal but the deal could not be made because of visa issues. In 2001 though, he signed a five year deal
with Paris Saint-Germain for a huge transfer fee of €5.1 million. He made his debut for the French club in the 2001 season and he played from the bench and sometimes started. He helped the team reach the semi-finals of the 2001–02 edition of the Coupe de la
Ligue. He then had a few problems with his manager with discipline issues but he returned to the club for the 2002-2003 season. But due to the poor performance of the club, Ronaldinho decided to leave and find success elsewhere.
That place was Barcelona, which outbid Manchester United to get the rising star. Ronaldinho won his first league title in 2004-2005 and also won a host of personal awards. He was named FIFA Player of the Year in 2004 and received the honour again in 2005.
He was also named European Footballer of the Year and then raked up another big title by winning the FIFA World Player of the Year as well. After leaving Barcelona, the huge star accepted an offer from Milan. He finished his first season for Milan with 10
goals in 32 appearances. His 2009 season with the Italian club did not start off too well but then the Brazilian found his form again and turned the year around with some stunning performances. His 2010 season has been just as impressive and it was very odd
that he was cut from the Brazilian World Cup squad for the World Cup this year.
The talented footballer was a key figure in the Brazilian national side since 1997, and had been a very popular figure among the fans and his teammates. During the 2006 World Cup, he was part of what was dubbed the ‘magic quartet’ by the media; playing alongside
Adriano, Ronaldo, and Kaká. But this fearful foursome failed to impress and in their 1-0 loss against France, the entire team’s performance was called into question after they only had one attempt at goal the whole match. It could have been this reason or
simply the fact that he was getting on a bit in the age department but the former coach of Brazil, Dunga, excluded Ronaldinho from the national team. The team’s performance at this year’s World Cup was very poor and a lot of people criticised Dunga’s coaching
style and the new playing style that the team had. It was a move away from the classical attacking style of play.
With his recent return to the national side by new coach, Mano Menezes, we are all set to see a renewed and invigorated Ronaldinho take the world by storm again. This great footballer’s career has been very impressive and he is one of the greatest players
in the game at the moment.
