The Hollywood Park Turf Festival reels in Invaders to challenge locals for the short turf meet
The Turf Festival at Hollywood Park has interested connections across the border, mainly from the Irish and English side to send their runners to participate in the Turf Festival which will start from 25 November, 2011, and last till 27 November, 2011.
The runners for the U.K will arrive at Hollywood Park on 16 November, 2011, a good 9 days before the festival commences, with the aim to get used to the surroundings and conditions because some of these horses are visiting the U.S. for the first time in
their careers and hopefully not the only time.
For the $250,000 Hollywood Derby on 27 November, trainer Charles Hills is sending out his 3-year-old bay colt, Slumber, to go against the likes of Willcox Inn, who is coming off a win in the Grade 3 Hawthorne Derby for Michael Stidham.
Slumber going into the Hollywood Derby is also coming off a win in a listed race called the James Seymour Stakes at Newmarket on 29 October, 2011.
Joining him in the Hollywood Derby will be Western Aristocrat. This 3-year-old Jeremy Noseda trained colt has been doing really well lately and in his last outing he went on to defeat Brilliant Speed by a length in the Grade 1 Jamaica Handicap at Belmont
Park at about a mile and a furlong.
Prior to the Grade 1 Jamaica Handicap, Western Aristocrat defeated King of Dixie in the Kempton.co.uk Conditions Stakes at Kempton over at a mile on 15 September, 2011.
The Irish bred 2-year-old bay filly, Island Paradise will participate in the $100,000 Miesque Stakes on 25 November. The juvenile filly is owned by P Winkworth and Rupert Williams and the daughter of Trans Island, out of mare Athlumney Dancer by Shareef
Dancer, is trained by part owner part trainer P Winkworth.
Another 2-year-old Irish bred brown colt, Blue White Fire is pointed toward the $100,000 Generous Stakes to be held on 27 November. Out of his four starts, Blue White Fire has managed a single win with 2 on the money performances.
Garrett Gomez is called to ride Slumber, while Corey Nakatani keeps Western Aristocrat intact and Joel Rosario will be aboard Blue White Fire, Island Paradise and Strawberry Daiquiri, who is pointed toward the $250,000 Matriarch November 25.
