The Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters has thrashed her veteran compatriot rival Justine Henin in an exhibition match in Belgium.
The match was played in the Diamond Games being held in Belgium. It was a good match for the former world number one tennis ace Justin Henin as she had just returned to the tennis court after recovering from an elbow injury. It was an equally challenging
match for Clijsters as well as it was a good opportunity for her to check her present form before the beginning of the new tennis season.
The 27-year old and current world number three Kim Clijsters proved a bit too tough for the rival Henin as Kim displayed a blistering performance. The US Open champ Clijsters started the match pretty well and attacked Henin to make her suffer. She snatched
the first set 6-1 in just twenty five minutes. On the other hand Justine Henin had no answers to Kim’s attacking strategy in the match.
Later the 28-year old tennis veteran Justine Henin recovered marvellously well in the match. She saved an early break point in the second set of the match and showed a brilliant game of tennis to all the spectators. Henin clinched the second set 6-3 to come
back strong in the match.
After that the rivals gave each other a real hard challenge for the tie breaker. Ten points were needed to win the match and it was Kim Clijsters who came out on top. The WTA player of the Year award winner Clijsters clinched the lead in the tie-breaker
and never looked back.
Now Clijsters and Henin will start their preparation for the upcoming season. At one side the former world champ Clijsters will prepare for the first Grand Slam of the season, whereas Justine Henin will try to clutch a good playing form in the Hopman Cup,
which will be held in Perth in January 2011.
Henin and Clijsters had also expressed their intentions of pairing up for the Olympics of 2012, for the doubles tennis events. According to critics, the pair of Henin and Kim will be a strong contender for the Gold as both the players have exceptional skills
and experience under their belt.
In a very recent interview over the internet, Kim Clijsters revealed that she was very excited to pair up with Justine Henin for the doubles tennis event in the 2012 Olympics. She hailed her compatriot as one of best female tennis players of the world.
Moreover on the other side of the world, former World Number 1 American tennis star Andy Roddick has said that he will join the American team for the next Davis Cup as he couldn't join them in 2009. He also said he was very thrilled to get back into the
American team for the Davis Cup and is really looking forward to the 2011 competition.
Meanwhile, the new captain of the American Davis Cup team, Jim Courier has said that the news of Andy Roddick's return to the Davis Cup team is really delighting. He added that the capacity of Andy Roddick cannot be challenged and his presence in the team
will cause a great impact.
It is interesting to note that the 28-year old Andy Roddick helped the American team win the Davis Cup title in 2007.
