The Indian team reinstated Ian Bell in the best interest of the game, says Rahul Dravid – Cricket News Update
Former Indian captain and current top order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 after tea break, on the third day of the Trent Bridge Test.
England’s centurion, Bell, was run out in a bizarre manner, when he thought that the ball has crossed the boundary line and he left the crease to go back to the non-striker end. The Indians dislodged the bails and Bell was sent back to the pavilion.
Luckily, tea was taken right after the incident and it gave time to Dhoni and the Indian team to think about the decision, after which the Indian captain withdrew the appeal.
Dravid said that the players were not feeling well after that incident and when Dhoni expressed that he is going to the withdraw the appeal, the whole Indian team backed him.
The veteran said, “Led by (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni, there was unanimity in the team that he (Bell) should be reinstated, under the rules he was out, but there was not a nice feeling in the dressing room. There was a bitter feeling in the stomach.”
Dravid expressed that the Indian team believes in playing the game in the right manner and this is the reason why they decided to reinstate the English batsman, who went on to score 159 runs off 206 balls, in which he struck 24 boundaries.
“There was a discussion in the dressing room and we knew it was not in the spirit of the game. There was unanimity that we should reinstate Ian and protect the spirit of the game. We all discussed it and we were all behind the decision. We always try to play the game in the right spirit,” Dravid added.
