The Irish Cape Blanco to leave for Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky upon retirement
The four-year-old Irish Cape Blanco is getting retired after gracing the tracks with numerous victories in the past. His three ending races turned out to be victories qualifying him for a hat trick before he retired.
He has raced in fourteen Stakes and won eight out of them with the winnings of £2,009,746 and the career earnings being £2,563,601.
Cape Blanco has raced six times this year, with Jamie Spencer onboard on all occasions and the only three wins he had were the same ones that made him achieve a hat trick.
In July at the Belmont Park, Cape Blanco geared up at the beginning of the race away from the railing to reach at par with the leader then was directed by the jockey to put the leader under pressure by the end of the fourth furlong. Cape Blanco soon took
over the lead which he only enjoyed for a fraction of a second as by 1 ½ furlong out he was deprived of the lead. Battled again and this time got the lead one furlong out and then stayed under pressure till finishing the race.
On 13th August at the Arlington, Cape Blanco raced third on the outside but soon went to the fourth position when he got guided by the jockey at 3 ½ furlong out. During the next two furlongs, he went headway and was onto challenging the leader
by then. He led the track and the lot racing on it for 1 ½ furlong out. He travelled well under pressure for the left over track and soon crossed the finish line.
At the beginning of this month, Cape Blanco again raced at Belmont Park where he started off very impressively in alignment with the rail but in order to chase the leader second, he shifted on the outside. As assisted by Jamie Spencer he geared up for leading
over three furlong out. Leaving the rest behind, he stayed on courageously in the final furlong though under pressure and won the race.
After giving these memorable performances he is to leave for Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky for his retirement.
Ashford manager Dermot Ryan said: "Galileo is without doubt the hottest sire in the world right now. He sired two European champion two-year-old colts from his first three crops and has no less than 10 different Group or Grade One winners including five
European Classic winners this year alone”.
His injury, the fractured knee reamikns to be the elementary reason for his retirement.
