I am graduating in May and my parents are taking me and my best friend on a trip to one of the island resorts. I found a nice resort on St. Lucia but I'm getting some negative reviews from some people. I wanted to know a nice resort with reasonable prices, beautiful views, by the ocean where I can relax. I would also like somewhere where I could stay on the resort but have fun. I'm 18 and I want a resort that has a lot to do and with other people my age. I am going with my parents so don't give me one of those singles resorts. Thanks

  2. Well, you some excellent options & if you know how to search the internet & find websites of resorts, like the one you found in St. Lucia then, you'll find what you're looking for.

Any area on the British & U. S. Virgin Islands are excellent choices. One area I highly recommend checking out is the Cayman Islands & there are three islands to choose from--Grand Cayman, Little Cayman & Cayman Brac. Here you have the choice of three islands. There's an area on Grand Cayman, called Seven Mile Beach & this beach has the reputation has the best beach in the Caribbean. Another advantage is that you can fly between the three islands for about $30.00 RT/pp. & you can visit each island for the day.

The problem you have is that you want a resort that has a lot to do but you want it at a reasonable price & these don't usually occur together.

What you should do is search these areas I mentioned & find some resorts to choose from. Check the ratings & reviews. Hotels are classified by the amount of stars {one star up to five or six stars}. The more stars, the more exclusive the resort is. Also, check for amenities { these are listed on the websites & it tells you all the extras that the resort has such as restaurants, swimming pools, water sports & more.

Since you want a lot to do then check for a lot of watersports such as skin diving, snorkeling, wind-surfing, wave-runners or even scuba diving. They always show a list of these watersports & the good resorts offer free non-motorized watersports & they supply all the equip. The wave-runners & jet skiers have an extra charge--usually by the hr. You can also find horseback riding on the beach.

If you want some really cheap areas that still have good quality resorts than I would suggest researching the Dominican Republic & Cozumel. These are both very cheap because there dollar is the peso & you'll get an excellent exchange rate & you may enjoy having to learn a little spanish to get some great shopping deals in the market areas.

Well, I don't think you have to look much further than this unless you might like Jamaica but that can be very crowded atr certain fo the yr. GOOD LUCK!!

  3. We found St Luica to be dirty, expensive and very poor. We stayed at Windjammer Landing, the villas are great, but the resort was not. I recommend you look at the Dutch side of St Maarten. We have been going there for 10 years. You can do almost anything there, be very busy, or just lay in the sand or by the pool. The island is full of time-share resorts that all rent the rooms (stuido, one bedroom & two bedrooms). All the beaches are great, weather is always about 82 to 86, cooling trade winds and almost no bugs. If you let me know what you want to do there, , I could recommend some resorts

  4. I have been to St Lucia twice and have never had a problem with crime. Like any other place be cautious. I have been to Dominican Republic also and I feel St. Lucia is much safer and a lot more relaxing. Have you checked the various reports reviews at tripadvisor.com? I don't stay at AI's but I met a few people while in St. Lucia that recommended the almond resorts. One thing about St. Lucia is that they have a variety of accommodations to suit any taste or budget.

  5. Don't mean to alarm you or put a damper on things, but you might want to look into another island.  There have been several postings on a website I frequent about crime against tourists there, especially in any of the more-remote resorts.  [I can't remember the site that describes this in detail, but I'm sure you could find it with a search of "St. Lucia crime" or such.]

How about Dominican Republic [they have lots of all-inclusives there], or Grand Cayman, or Aruba [yes, I know about Ms. Holloway, but that may be a case of someone not taking adequate precautions], or St. Thomas?

You can gets books about the Caribbean from your library which will give you an overview of different islands.  Frommer's and Fodor's are good - they have on-line guides, too.

If you might be interested in renting an apartment/condo, check out HomeAway.com.  TripAdvisor.com has comments from past guests about hotels and resorts in the Caribbean - HOWEVER, they delete any posts that contain reports of crimes against tourists.

Hope you can find a spot that suits you just right!!

  6. id be happy with a motel 6 =].... ahhhh sooo exciteddd!!!

  7. In the Dominican Republic you will find reasonable prices, beautiful views and the ocean. I would suggest the Punta Cana area. the resorts are all-inclusive and you will have a great graduation present.

Here is a link below for you to research. This link will provides unbiased reviews, articles, recommendations and opinions on Punta Cana Resorts.

    Good Luck and have fun)

  8. My Canadian friend is the Financial Controller of the Almond Bay resort in St Lucia. It was renovated about 2 yrs ago and is great.

Regarding Dominican Republic, have you read the reports about the Quebec chapter of h***s Angels moving in there? Do some research.

    The Cayman Islands are expensive.

PS. I lived in Montserrat for 6 years. This island is not what you are looking for. It is quiet and relaxed but does have an active volcano.
