The Italian Grand Prix to begin this Friday
The 2010 season has been full of surprises and unexpected results as the teams have introduced immense developments in the cars during 2010, taking Formula 1 technology to the next level.
We have witnessed inventions like blown diffusers and F-duct systems during this year, making the cars faster, competitive and consistent. Due to these sudden developments, racing has been more exciting on the track and off the track as well. Each team is testing and bringing new ideas to the table that makes things very much unpredictable, increasing the excitement as the spectators never know which team will have better technology for a particular track.
Formula 1 will head to Italy at the Monza circuit for the next race this week. The practice sessions will begin this Friday followed by qualifying and race on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Monza is a high-speed circuit as it has a number of long straights, fast corners and tight chicanes. Formula 1 introduced this track in 1950 that was won by legendary former champion Nino Farina. The track was built in 1922 but due to its fast nature, many drivers died along with 27 spectators in 1928 and 3 top drivers in 1933, even though modifications were made to the initial track design. Monza was modified in 1955 before being banned again because of concerns over the stress it imposed on the cars. Even after numerous modifications, the track is still criticised due to its fast nature. It is one of the only old school tracks that are left in Formula 1. This is the home Grand Prix for team Ferrari, making it more enjoyable for the crowd every year. Monza has the capacity of 115,000 people and is currently 5.793 km long. The circuit has 11 turns, having a clockwise direction.
The Italian Grand Prix is going to be very important for the top 5 drivers especially for Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso in 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively. These 3 drivers will have to score some good points at Monza to stay in the championship as they were not able to score a single point at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. However, Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber will also have to work harder for the upcoming race since the point’s difference between them is not much.
Due to the high-speed nature of the track, McLaren is expected to make most since their F-duct technology which offers exceptional top speed as compared to the rest of the teams. However, Red Bull has proved to be a fast car as well after the Belgian grand prix. Jenson Button will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders as he is the defending champion and if he is not able to score at Monza, his hopes of defending his title will be shattered.
McLaren is just a point behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings hence the race will be quite vital for both teams. Lewis is currently in the lead with 182 points, just 3 points clear of Mark Webber. Besides that, Ferrari hopes to keep their championship hopes alive as well and score a good result at their home grand prix in Italy.
Fernando Alonso is 41 points behind Lewis but believes that he still has a chance at the title and the chase for the title is nowhere near the end. He believes that the team has a strong car for the last six races and the team can still recover from the loss. However, according to statistic reports, McLaren and Red Bull will be the strongest two out of the rest of the cars in the upcoming race at Monza and the race will clear things up for what the future holds for the top five drivers.
