The Japanese Grand Prix 2010 (Part 2)
Mark Webber in the Red Bull Racing, who is 11 points clear of his closest rival Fernando Alonso, currently leads the Championship. Webber is optimistic that his team will do very well in Japan and replicate their 2009 performance. Keeping in mind that team
Ferrari are at their peak after two consecutive wins, the point’s situation is still very open and the championship is still uncertain.
“It’s nice that I have a little buffer, it’s not very big but it’s something I would rather have than not. Suzuka is a track that all the drivers love and I am looking forward to it. I think we will be very competitive; we need to go there and get the maximum
out of what we have,” he said.
His teammate Sebastian Vettel is currently at 4th position just 21 points behind Webber. The German driver dominated the race last year after the Suzuka circuit returned to the Formula 1 calendar after two years. Sebastian Vettel finished 5 seconds
clear of Jarno Trulli in the Toyota in 2nd place followed by Lewis Hamilton at 3rd place. Mark Webber on the other hand, finished at the back in 17th place, 2 laps behind the leader. Suzuka was clearly Red Bull’s circuit last
year as they were marginally faster than their rivals Brawn GP.
However, the situation is completely different this year as the competition is more intense. “Suzuka should suit our car, but we still have to go there and prove it. I think we have a very competitive car this year on all circuits, so we can be confident.
Last year was very good and I think we should get a good result again,” said the young German.
Ferrari has been dominating since the past couple of races and they are expected to maintain their momentum at the Japanese Grand Prix. McLaren are not so far either as they have a very fast car and Suzuka should suite it. The question that everyone is asking
at the moment is that will the teams use the F-duct or not? According to the characteristics of the track, teams should use the F-duct to gain advantage in the fast corners which may enable the car to track at good pace in the fast corners as well. Nevertheless,
it is still not easy to say what will happen in the near future as this season is getting more complex with every race.
The constructors’ title is also uncertain as Red Bull is currently leading the championship with 383 points ahead of McLaren with 359 points. Ferrari is way behind Red bull but the Italian team claims that they can still challenge McLaren and Red Bull for
the constructors’ title as well but it is quite clear that the constructors’ championship is not as close as Ferrari thinks it is.
McLaren on the other hand, has a chance at the title, as they are just 24 points behind leaders Red Bull Racing. The Japanese Grand Prix might clear the situation or maybe make it even more complicated. The race last year returned with the same excitement
that it used to offer 3 years ago and the race in 2010 is going to be even more exciting with the championship hitting the climax. Mark Webber was labelled as the most favourite driver for the championship but many believe that Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton
are not going to let him get away that easily. Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button are not far behind either and comparing Sebastian’s pace to the rest of the challengers, Vettel might have some surprises in store for all the fans.
The race is going to be exciting either way and it will not be easy for the top 5 drivers to challenge the rest of the pack in order to score some good points. The intensity is soaring and only time could answer the questions concerning which driver will
turn champion this year.
